Oblivion not work for anyone here?

I just upgraded my graphics card from the Geforce 6800 to a GeForce 7900 GT KO. Now first off i CAN run in the environment with all highest settings possible with NO LAG......but when something aggros me like a crab/deer/horse/guard or anything like that.........my fps goes from great to .........well bad. Anyone else have a geforce 7900 gt graphics card that is experiencing something like this??? I am very confused because I even put ALL the settings on the lowest possible with 640-480 resolution AND I STILL LAG when i see something attacking me.....

Well... I have a GeForce 6800 and I expected it to play all the games with no lag, what a mistake. I have experienced the same issue you're talking about, no matter my resolution the stuttering in the game occurs whenever an enemy attacks, etc.

From what I've heard this is because nVidia has problems with Oblivion as it was optimized for ATI cards. This means your super expensive card can't win over the lowest ATI in running this game. I mean just look at this some people have been playing it using ATI Radeon 9600's! hahaha what a joke right.

I've also seen claims it makes use of dual cores, this is nonsense, if it were so then why does the game lag so terribly with even the best card. It's a complete lie that it makes use of dual cores, and forget tweaking the .ini it's not even gonna make a difference, I know because I tried!

So... I will also buy a GeForce 7900, why? Because this thing blew away the ATI Radeon x1900 in benchmarks, it was like candy. No point to buy a card that was released to compete with the nVidia GeForce 7800!

Stick with your card, wait for better patches, and ummm I also think that NCQ (Native Command Queing) might have something to do with it. If there's some unknown flaw in this method for accessing data on the HD during gameplay it might account for our similar situations.

I am running the game on my system at 800x600 with 4xAA and bloom without any problems. Did you look at the FAQ on the elderscrolls site? You need to disable the joystick and be sure you end processes on HP printers/add ons, for the game to work properly.

There is also a detailed tweak guide at http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html

Good luck. Simply an awesome game!!

Granted both of my cards are in between of you two, XFX-7800gt (in Gen4 MCE2005 win) and eVGA 7800gtx (AMD, x64 Pro Edition win). I have been playing with all max settings (1920x1200) and (1680x1050) with BLOOM selected without any issue whatsoever. I also use Xtreme-G tweak drivers for both rigs.

Hello, I have been playing Oblivion with Dual SLI 7800 GTX cards and the Dual 930 intel P4. I am currently using the 84.21 driver from Nvidia. My opinion is that I have seen alot of diffrence from driver to driver in regards to the dual core chip being utilized more efficiently in this game, but most of all I have seen the greatest impovments by using the .ini file tweaks mentiond at tweakguides.com. Originally with my default settings I was having all the common problems you have mentioned i.e system sttuders laggy combat. But after I tweaked, (and there are a few specific tweaks for dual core systems) there was nothing but smooth gaming.  FYI. I curently run the game at 1280x1024 75 Hz (native) HD lighting on/ Vsync off and everything else turned on as far as the eye can see, if you know what I mean.      "Great game" I'd love to see a multiplayer.:smileytongue:

Well, i have a 7900GTX, and i have lagg too. And when install the game, it says dont recognize my vid card, lol, i guess the game was done before the vid card.

So, im expecting to play with everything FULL with my SLI system (2x7900GTX), but i really dont know what to expect.

This game wasnt tested before for long time, thats why have a lot problems, and know they are collecting all the problems to make a fix patch, lol.

Ya I think its just the fact that my 7900gt came out AFTER the game did, I also get that message when I installed the game. So hopefully the people at oblivion are making a patch so the newer cards will be compatible......and for your SLI I hope it works out for ya but don't hold your breath. Your GTX as is should be able to run the game absolutely no problem but ya hope it works out for ya
