Brian, go into accounts and make certain the passwords for the Hotmail accounts are correct. It is best to delete the accounts and then re-establish them. Be certain you have checked, "Start messenger automatically," in your Email/tools/options/properties. I think this is in the general tab. If you can not solve the problem, remove the bad accounts; at least that will stop the hang. I almost forgot to remind you that if these are free Hotmail accounts, and if they have been inactive for 30 days, they are history.

These 3 Hotmail accounts have always worked. I go in on the Hotmail website several times a day and check my accounts there. Also in Outlook XP, I've gone in SEVERAL times already and deleted and created new accounts for these and still nothing. It's like Outlook just won't connect to that msn server or something. The accounts and passwords are fine, I check them everyday, but would rather check them all at once on Outlook, you know what I mean? I just don't know. But I know the passwords are accurate and I've created new accounts just yesterday and they still don't work. So who knows. If you can come up with something else, let me know. Back about 3 months ago, all of these worked and I had no problems and then all of a sudden they're not working and making a new account for each doesn't fix it. Let me know...

brian, If you are using a firewall or Ad/Subtract, these two programs may be blocking communication. You will need to configure the firewall to allow mailto get yhrough. If you open messenger and get some of your hotmail off the web, can you then get the rest in Outlook.? What does the microsoft support site say?

I think I got it working now. What I did was this... I went into Outlook XP and deleted ALL of my mail accounts. Then added back ONE of my hotmail accounts, and it worked. THEN I closed Outlook, reopened it, the hotmail acct still worked, and so then I added the 2nd hotmail account and it worked too. So I closed Outlook once again, reopened it, and the 2 previous hotmail accts still worked, so then I added the third hotmail account. Then I added back my regular Pop mail one too.

So, it all seems to be working now. I guess maybe you can't add more than one Hotmail account per session in Outlook. If you create, close, reopen, create, close, reopen, ceate, it seems to work. Anyway, so now I have all my 3 hotmail accounts workin in Outlook XP now. Who knows why you can't create all 3 accounts right after one another, but that doesn't work.

Anyway, thanks for you interest in helping me. I'll holler back if something just messes up with this again. Thanks...

brian, I have had similar problems with Hotmail. Mine just started working one day without doing anything. I personally suspect that if you buy super hotmail instead of using the freebie, none of this happens.

I kind of think the same thing. Anyway it's been working for the past 9 hours or so. So maybe it'll work for me now. It's SO much easier to check 3 email accounts on Outlook instead of having to do each one separately on the website. Anyway thanks for your help and I'll keep that MS support site bookmarked. I have had similar problems, but I believe my issue is the server timeout on large attachments (>150K) as I am on a dial-up connection.

What puzzles me is that the Outlook 2002 help addresses this issue by changing the slider bar on the timeout within the Advanced tab of \Tools\e-mail accounts\view or change while selecting Next\ . . .\More settings. However, when I go to the Internet E-Mail Settings window, all I see are two tabs: General and Connection - NO Advanced tab as indicated in help.

Anyone out there know how to lengthen the timeout for Outlook 2002?
