Overstack Problem

On no less than two occasions I turned on computer and received the following message:
"Terminating thread due to a stack overstack
problem. A VxD, possibly recently installed
has consumed too much space. Increase the
setting of 'Min SPs" in sytem or remove recently
VxD's. There are currently 5 SP's allocated.

I have had this computer for 6 months and this is the first time that I encountered this message.

What does it mean? What is a VxD? What is an overstack? What are SP's? What does 'Min SP' mean? What does a stack do?

What steps can I take to correct this problem?

All help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a Dell 4100, Wind98ed2, 933 MHz, 256 SDRAM, 30GB system.

I am no expert on this but I think a VxD is a virtual device driver.

birdwatcher: Please see the following Dell Knowledge Base article for a solution to your problem:

Why do I get the error "Terminating thread due to stack overflow" in Microsoft® Windows® 95, 98, or Millennium Edition (Me)?<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

Stack overflows are a commonly reported problem in DellTalk. They have nothing to do with Dell or how Dell configures its systems. They have to do with the default stack size set by Windows being overrun by some installed software. It is easily adjustable and not a big problem.

    Hey Cody,

Is this only applicable if you are receiving the error msg. or is that the way Dell sets up their machines after loading the software at the factory?
