PC vs PS3
Hey Guys,
I'm curious how does PS3 compare to some of the gaming pc that's available out there? I guess I would have guessed that a PC could do everything and even more with a high end graphics cards than they could on PS3. Am I wrong? What is comparable PC configuration to PS3 in terms of Video and Processing power? I'm just trying to figure out why everyone is going bonkers over the PS3.
Thanks.

danshinThose folks have more money than good sense I guess. Everyone knows that the pc platform is the one and only true cutting edge gaming platform:smileywink:Excuse me while I put away my gamecube, ps2, n64, GB advance, DS, Genesis, Super NES (they're my son's....really :smileyvery-happy:)DaleThe Flotilla

HP 7130P - Pentium 200 - 1.6Gb HD - Win98 - My dos gaming rig.- I also have PS1 and Xbox which I rarely play (no time) but I was really referring to people on eBay right now that are bidding upto $2K - $5K to buy one of these. With that money you can really get a nice computer system that does everything! I just didn't know if PS3 really had some big technical advantage over PC but from what I've been able to find and read on Google it doesn't sound like it.
- It doesn't make sense to me either. Why would anyone pay 2K to 5K for a $500 machine? I almost bought one from Costco.com for 699.00 (2 controllers, 60gb HD and a game) and changed my mind at the last minute because I couldn't justify the cost. For that matter, lining up two to three days in advance of the system's release doesn't make sense to me either. Don't get me wrong I've owned or own an Atari 2600, Atari 7800?, Seag Master System, Sega Genesis, NES, Super NES, TurboGraphix 16 (waste of money:smileymad: ), Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, XBox and a Xbox 360, but I have never overpaid for these systems. I really couldn't buy the PS3 at that price when I know I could get a good PC from the DELL outlet for less and get a very good PC for a few dollars more.

I think it is 1080P. Whichever is better (I haven't followed the HD scene).
Either way, my comment still stands.andreychuk

I like PC Better :)But I like my PS2 also which I play on my flat panel monitor on a tv tuner on my pc :)- yeah, 1080p is the best right now. it's kind of strange that the PS3 supports it even though so few televisions are 1080p capable, and noone broadcasts in progressive scan at that resolution. maybe it's another marketing strategy to get people to upgrade their TVs. it always kills me when i see the sony commercials where they hype 1080p, and how you aren't really watching hi-def unless you have one of their monitors, when 1080p broadcasts are so rare.

The only advantage to the console is that you'll never have to upgrade it to play the very latest and greatest games. Also, remember that PCs drive higher resolution displays, so they need to be more powerful to play games. The PS3 only has to power a 1080P HDTV at most.
Comparable configuration (or what I'd call comparable):
Core 2 Duo
Nvidia 7900GS or higher, ATI X1900GT or higher
1GB+ DDR2 RAM
