please help!!! low virtual memory

I have did every thing to increase virtual memory.

I keep getting low virtual memory prompt.

I then tried to increase the pagefiling,  initial memory and maximum memory

I then tried setting both initial and maximum equal to each other.

I have cleaned all my files, deleted any unnecessary progams.

I did at one time contract a few viruses and a adware (or spyware), But once I installed the mcafee virus scan, firewall, and privacy servise. I cleaned and even had to delete some of the infected files.

I now have this problem of low virtual memory. I have 2400 seminsion with 256 ram. I have ony had this computer since Feb. 2004

My computer's page filing is now set at initial 400mb and maximum 1054mb. I still am getting the low virtual memory prompt. If I dont shut my computer down I will eventaully run out of memory, not allowing me to use any programs and even shutting off the internet or causing many erroes to show on my computer.

Does any one have any suggestion. I  would truely appreciate the help.

What is the maximum that I could adjust the pagefiling memory.

This is MS's article on virtual memory. It is only a reference:

It would also help if you posted your OS, as that does make a difference.

Yes, It helps because some fixes are for different systems, Win9x, XP, etc.

Here is a good site for more on virtual memory (XP):

    http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php

And a pagefile monitor from the above site:

    Thanks for the link.

You mention that it would help if I posted my OS.

This may sound stupid,  but I don't know what OS stands for.
