Precision 620 CPU frequency problem

Hi,

I have a precision 620 with dual Pentium III Xeon 1.0 GHz processors. Due to a conflict between BIOS version A11 and nVidia Quadro 900 XGL video card, the CPU frequency was set to 266 MHz by the system. The frequency setting utility provided by dell allows maximum frequency of 933 MHz. So my computer is now working at 933MHz. Is there a way to restore it back to the normal speed? Thanks.

The Quadro 900 XGL video card will generate a "plug and play configuration error" message after the boot with BIOS version A11, and the computer cannot boot into DOS. However, there is no problem with earlier BIOS versions. Is there a work around?

Thanks.

    Hi,

i have the same problem... but with dual 933 chips. just wondering where you found utility to set the speed to 933... the highest i could find on the dell site is the sprfreq2 file which goes up to 833.

    Thanks

thanks very much... a bit misleading as the description of the suprfreq2 file says "support for 866mhz added..." and mentions nothing about the 933mhz option. once downloaded however, sure enough... there it was!

my chips are only 933 anyway so best not try and notch them up to 1gig! only thing that worries me now is that windows xp professional still sees only 933mhz under system properties general tab (well 930 in fact but lets not split hairs)

i would have thought as xp pro supports dual processors it wou;ld show as 1866mhz or thereabouts, am i missing something... i understand Hardware Abstraction Layers (sounds like something out of Arthur C Clarke's 2001!) have something to do with it in win2000... but i thought xp pro enabled multiprocessor support automatically...

anyway the sytems running very well right now.. so thanks a bunch!

    Hi,

Go to Dell support page and search for SPRFRQ2.EXE. It is the second revision of the frequency setting utility for Precision 620. It will set the processor frequency as high as 933MHz. In case you need to set it to 1.0GHz, you can simply modify one of the batch files and changed the switch to /E (it will read xxxx.com/E, different switches will set different frequencies). Hope this helps.

    Hai,

I had the same problem with 2 933's going on  266Mhz. It happened after I uninstalled Norton firewall.

Thanks to the reply you gave someone in the past, I was able to resolve the problem.

I wonder why Dell does not put that utility in the support and download section .

    Thanks for your contribution!:emotion-1:
