Slow!! Slow!! Slow!!!

I have a Dell Dimension 8200.. Pentium 4...2.0GHz...40GB hard drive..256MB rdram...Purchased this pc the end of March, 2002. Until about a week ago it was FAST..now it takes forever for things, such as internet connection, google and some other sites to come up . I know that the speed sometimes depends on the site, but seems everything has slowed down.. Any suggestions?

Cntrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager. Select the processes tab. Anything look like it's taking an unusual amount of CPU time?

Go to Dslreports.com and run a speed test. Download and install DRTCP and make recommended adjustments base on your test. I increased performance by 70% by making a few regestry changes.

    Hi,
If you have downloaded anything lately ( morpheus, kazaa ) it could very well be spyware. Go to the site below, download and run AdAware. This utility will remove spyware from your system.

You should always practice safe computing i.e. stay away from the above P2P file sharing sites, XXX sites, etc.

    Nothing is really free.

    Good luck

Thanks for everyones help. :o) I had installed a little american flag in the right, lower corner of my screen. It just sat there and waved. I deleted it and it seems to have helped a great deal. I don't have Kazaa or Morpheus so I guess that wasn't the problem.
I am going to try the dslreports.com and also d/l it. And will d/l the adware.
    Thanks again!!
