Sound Card Help
I have a Dimension 2400. I recently purchased a midi keyboard and my desktop did not have a midi capabilities so i bought a PCI 32 bit 5.1 Channel Surround-Sound Card (C Media 8738) from CompUSA.
I followed all the instructions, i installed the sound card into my PCI port (i replaced it where my modem was), and i disabled my intergrated sound. When trying to install the driver i get a CODE 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. ). I did so many things trying to fix the problem, i uninstalled/reinstalled about a million times. I even reinstalled Windows Xp along with all my drivers (which caused some other problems but i fixed them). Still no luck. I also got Service Pack 2 (because on Microsoft site it says it can sometimes fix Code 12), still no luck.
Then i thought maybe it was just clashing with my SM Bus Controller drivers since that was never installed correctly (as i see many other people had that problem, but fixed it thanks to this forum and the Intel program). So now im all dry out of ideas. I tried installing the drivers in Safe Mode also, STILL no luck, i keep getting Code 12.
Like i said , im bone dry, can someone please help?

Check the drivers you are trying to install. It sound like they are not Windows XP drivers. From what I can find the Code 12 is more a non Windows XP system related problem.
Windows XP normally would not have this problem , especially since you uninstalled the modem (or did you just remove it and leave it in the Device Manager as an error?). I've seen several posts, in the Audio section, of people adding SoundBlaster sound cards without any problem to a 2400 system.
Some PCI cards are actually multifunction devices and require system resources for each device (even tho it's one card). The sound card you have may be one of those and is the reason you don't have enough resources. Although the 2400 is an entry level PC, it should still support an add on sound card.
Two suggestions, (1) take the card back if you can and buy a USB/MIDI interface device - what most people that need MIDI do (2) take the card back and get a SoundBlaster Live! card if you still want the MIDI on the sound card.
