I'm trying to help my parents solve a problem with their Dell Dimension desktop. It's running Windows XP Pro. My mother was surfing a geneology site and followed a link to a page that had a map of Germany. When she quit the browser (IE) part of the map image stayed on the desktop. It is approximately 1.5" by 2" in size and located in the lower right area of the screen. It is always in the same place on the screen. Sometimes, the map does not show up, instead you see an outline the same size as the image, with a small red box in the upper left corner with a white X in it. It looks like when you go to a web site and the image is not available and it gives you that blank box thing. If you right click on the image or the blank box, you get the same menu as if you right clicked on the rest of the desktop. I even tried clicking or right-clicking on the red box with the X and get the same menu. It's as if the computer doesn't even know it's there.

I downloaded SpyBot and Adaware and they found various things and resloved them but the image persists. Please keep in mind I am a Mac guy and while i know my way around a Windows machine am not as adept with them. Please be very specific with any advice and don't assume that i know anything!!
