USB Bios Enabled hangs system

Reading these threads I may be barking up a bad tree. I own a Dell XPS H266. I try to enable the USB interface in BIOS, nothing attached and my system hangs. Had problems with it prior to my installation of Win2K. I have a ATI Wavewatcher card installed on system as well. When I mean hang, it hangs at Win2K login prompt. I have to reset system. Again, just enabling the USB interface hangs my system. Yes, I have th latest BIOS flash updated.

Remove the usb from control panel, system, device manager. Reboot with usb enabled in bios. When windows finds the usb force windows to install from your windows CD. Don't let it install the already installed newer driver.

Did you upgrade to win2k or do a complete format and install?

It was never enabled when I installed WIN2k. Nothing to delete.

See that you said you had the same problem when win98 was on the system. Maybe this is a MB problem. Win2k and win98 should have picked it up when enabled in bios. Should have had it enabled when win2k was installed. Sorry I can't offer more help.

The device was hidden (in control pannel, hardware remove). Went back into CP and removed. Will attempt to re-install from CDROM. Thanks.

Just an FYI, it does not work still. I've carefully removed it. Before discovery, during login system hangs.

Ok, it usually always works so you must have some other problem. Out of suggestions on this end.
