USB/Win98SE Problems

I saw a similar thread for Windows XP, but my problem has some differences so I'm doing a new topic.

Description: I have a USB thumb drive that won't work with my system. Tested with my new WinXP laptop, and it works fine. I've never been able to get other devices working on my Win98 computer's USB ports, despite numerous attempts. For this specific problem, I've installed the manufactuer's drivers multiple times, tried removing my USB controllers and letting them reinstall, and even tried restoring the USB files from the Win98 CD, but none of it works. I'm still getting a little yellow exclamation point next to my USB device.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm trying to migrate my old files to my new laptop, at which time I'll be done with Win98 forever. Good riddance.

I've had a similar problem and this is what I learned. Could it be that the Win98SE computer has USB1.1 while the device you are trying to use is only compatible with USB2.0?  Some USB2.0 devices are not downwards compatible.
