XPS 7100 Memory upgrade

I have a XPS 7100 with 4g ram, 2 2gig sticks in slots 1 and 2. Can I add 2 4g sticks in slots 3 &4? For a total of 12 gigs.

Was just wondering if they will still run in dual channel mode.

    Should work OK.

HERE is the Crucial Memory listing for the Studio XPS7100 (what most of the techies on here recommend for non-Dell memory).

I wanted to do the same Boomer50. I went to the site you suggested, I am still a little lost, I am not a computer PRO.

If I understand it right, Does it mean it can only goes in pairs? Cannot be different #gigs?

For example, it has to have four of the 4GB (has to be all the same kind) & I cannot use two 4GB and two 2GB to make 12GB? Am I right on this one?

    Thanks,

    Loreta

You want to install in identical pairs, but different pairs can be different from eachother.

So you can have 1 pair of 2GB dimms and another pair of 4GB dimms.

    Hello Boomer50,

I did what Dev Mgr suggestions :emotion-1:.

I left my old memory in their slots (two - 2GB = 4GB).

Then, I added my new memory in the remaining slots (two - 4GB = 8GB).

My computer automatically recognized that I now have a total of 12GB of memory.

It is safe to do & it is AWESOME :emotion-2: !!!!

I just realized that this post was written December 2011, hope I was not too late to give you an answer.

Maybe others can learned from us.

    Just me,

    Loreta:emotion-11:
