600m touchpad loose

I received my 600m last week.  I think this is a great notebook for my needs.  I am a grad student so I needed something relativley light weight with enough punch to run applications like Matlab.  I have one complaint, my touchpad is loose in the upper right corner, with slight pressure it will depress a mm or 2.  I have another 600m almost 1 year old now and its touchpad is rock solid.  I am considering asking for an exchange as I am under the 30 day satisfaction period.  Comments?

600m, 1.7GHz, SXGA, 40Gig., 256 ram 1 DIMM (will order 500 from Crucial), True Mobile a/b/g, XP Pro.

    bdc2000,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If the system does not meet with your approval within the first 30 days, you can either contact Dell Support for a solution or contact the contact Customer Care department.

Thank you for your advice BobT.  After a pleasant experience with a customer care representative a replacement unit will arrive in one week.  The complete transaction took a little over 20 minutes.  I am impressed with the no-nonsense exchange policy Dell provides, it went very smoothly.

I hope with anticipation that the new unit meets with my approval.  I have a pretty discerning eye and understand the trade-offs I have made.  I will follow up with a post upon receiving the replacement notebook.

600m, 1.7GHz PIII, 256 1 DIMM (will order a stick of 500Mb), 40Gig, Wireless a/b/g, SXGA, XP Pro, Logitech MX Duo.

Hello all, I have been sent a replacement notebook and want to give you some feedback regarding the problems I reported with the first notebook vs the replacement.

It took a little longer than Customer service first promised for my replacement to arrive.  That was no problem for me and it was done in about two weeks total time.  The issues I complained about were:

    • Dim LED indicators on the right hinge:  the LED's are brighter now, but not nearly as bright as my 1 year old 600m.
    • The touchpad that ws loose is much better now, and it has better response.
    • My new AC charger does not make any noise, it is great.

Overall satisfaction of the Dell Customer Service Replacement Plan

    • Two thumbs up...
    • Coud not be more pleased at the way everything has turned out.

600m, 1.7GHz, 40 gig, 256 ram (500 Mb will be ordered next), SXGA, DellTrue Mobile a/b/g, additional modular battery.
