Audio problems

I have been reading the recent posts about audio troubles.  I also have started to have problems.  I have no sound on any internet sites except there is sound on  the Microsoft  video "Intro to IE8".    I have sound on downloaded games, but not on the online game sites.  Could this be because of another messed up update from MS?   I to am new to computers,  though I have an OLD iMac that I played around on to get my feet wet.  I now have an Inspirion 1440.

Try using System Restore to get the Registry back to a time before the problem first occurred. In XP, go to

    Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
and tick 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'.

In Vista, type 'restore' into the Start menu search box, and System Restore will appear in the start menu.

I don't know the reason for your lack of audio but because it only happens on the internet I would first suspect a browser problem. I don't know much about browsers but when you go to a web site that has audio content the browser uses a plug-in media player to play the audio (ex. Quicktime). It is possible that the plug-in is missing or not working. You might try using a different browser (Firefox).

Also check the settings in IE. On the menu click on Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab and check the settings, particularly the multimedia about halfway down the list.

If no one here provides you with a better answer try posting on the Networking/Internet/Wireless Board.

As a last resort you can use the Factory Image Restore tool in your computer to restore the original configuration. If there was no problem when you first got the computer this will fix it.

Thanks jimco for your reply.  I finally went to Control Paneland tried different things then started Media Player and after a few attempts it started having sound again.  So, don't know what happened or how it was fixed, but it appears that it is good for now.  I hope it lasts awhile.:emotion-43:
