Go to SolutionBIOS asks for password after resetting BIOS settings to default
Hi,
Can somebody help with providing me with the BIOS password for my Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop? I asked before here on this forum but now I am a registered owner of this laptop (it took over 2 months to do it) so I can provide computer's service tag, the snapshot of the error message, name registered during the system ownership transfer and an email address...
Many thanks,

I'm afraid the laptop is out of warranty, I do not see a way to call UK Dell support number (or access chat for that matter) without a warranty. But at the same time this laptop is catching dust for almost 3 months now, just because I have reverted the BIOS to defaults and later had some issues with proving ownership. Such thing has never happened to me with any other brand ?!?! If this was my only laptop It would not be disappointment anymore, more like a rage...
Is there any way to get this password ?
Thanks EJN63 for posting a fee-based support contact, might save it for another day and thanks to you I found all UK support numbers.
I will try to call normal hardware support line because paying to access my own computer which was NOT password protected by me personally but vendor locked by Dell is not an option. This is unfair, I'm not sure if it is legal in the UK not to mention EU regulations which protect customers from such cases.
It obviously makes sense with support for the general hardware and software faults excluding mechanical damages, water damage and other obvious results of misuse of electronic equipment. Examples: system restore from malware, power connector failures, dead inverter etc.
The issue of a vendor locking access to equipment only makes sens when there is a valid subscription agreement between a vendor and a customer, I mean here hardware firewall subscriptions, software antivirus subscriptions, equipment leasing etc.
When PC BIOS password is imposed onto a user and user is asked to pay to regain access to the equipment I can think of 2 options: extortion and planned obsoletion. Both illegal if proven.
Having said that I called today support line 0844-338-1200 and I was informed I will get help with the password and I will share the outcome here later on. Many thanks.
Hi,
I did indeed call the support and I was provided with a password which unfortunately does not work.
Official UK Dell support staff provided me with a password based on my laptop's service tag and while they asked for PPID in fact I received exactly the same password I already tried using the BIOS password generator found n the Internet ( http://dogber1.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/fix-for-595b-keygen.html ).
This password generator is reported to be not working with N5110 so it probably doesn't work with N5010 either as it requires adding some extra characters to a serial number which were apparently a part of the number in some older Dell laptop models (although I tried all of them 595B, D35B, A95B and 2A7B).
Any help with getting a password for my N5010 would be much appreciated. Serial: F620XM1, PPID: CN0M45MM701660B5G01RA00.
The only thing I can add is I am disappointed with the Dell support, I recommend Samsung laptops nowadays and I even tried to sell my N5010 on eBay without luck as the buyer did not even want to go through all the trouble I went through already. I still got it on the shelf :(
Thanks,
Just got back from holidays and tried the password straight away. IT WORKS!!! Whoever you are evserv, many thanks for the password and all the best.
The password looks kinda like CRC32 but I'm sure there's more to it by looking at the amount of transformations in the other dell.c password generator sources.
Why Dell would lock the BIOS this way and then support would claim the motherboard is broken? This is worrying.
If you're in need of sth regarding programming, pm me I may be of help in return as you helped a lot with the pass.
