Bios - post disapear
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 8500, and when i boot it, i don't see the bios and post screen (hdd, keyboard, entering bios).
It boot directly on windows, and so i can't go into the bios ...
I upgraded the bios to A06, nothing.
I try to play with the switch between external display, nothing.
I'm sure it's not in hibernation.
I change the battery, nothing ... (yes i lose the hour).

HiOther option to go into the bios would be to press and hold down any key while the computer is starting up, it would sometimes give an error to press F2 to go into the BIOS. Once in BIOS, press and hold down the "Alt" Key and tap the "F" Key a couple of times to load the bios defaults, save the changes and exit and check whether you are able to see the Dell Screen etc.Also there is another option in the BIOS, boot post - values are minimal, automatic and thorough, try changing this to thorough and check.Hope this helpsThe Apostate.LobsterSan

I have the same problem as the original poster. The problem is that even if I can enter the BIOS setup, I can't see what I'm doing. I'm even able to get to a command prompt, if I proceed with my memorized patterns and look at what my hard drive light is doing. However, the only time I get a signal to my screen is when the Windows login pops up.
As was stated in the post above, WindowsXP boots just fine, it's just that all steps prior to the login screen aren't sending a signal to the monitor.

I've just tried out a cold boot with my external monitor connected, and I'm getting a signal on my external monitor. I'll try out a few different things -- I'm hoping it's a weird driver issue that affects the Dell display connection and not a hardware problem.LobsterSan

Nevermind -- I figured it out. I just used my fingernail and it popped back out!
I knew it was messed up before -- god this makes me so relieved that it's such a simple problem.
