I have an inspiron 15r with windows7 that I upgraded, using the free upgrade, to windows 10. All was fine until a month ago when it crashed whilst browsing the web. I had a bluescreen which is constantly saying attempting automatic repair. Doesn't get any further than this. I have attempted to enter the f8 menu following instructions on the factory image restore but f8 will not load the advanced options. Nothing happens. Help please

Press F12 a few times at powerup -- boot to the Dell diagnostics and run an extended test on the hard drive - you'll likely see an error starting with 2000 (like 2000-0142), which will confirm the most likely cause: a failing or failed hard drive.
Thanks for answering. I did as you said and eventually came to some error codes. Disk-block 207281 interupt request did not set in time, error code 0F00:1332. Got a few of these with same error code but different disk block numbers. Any idea what this may suggest ?

The hard drive has developed bad sectors, which are the source of the problem. The hard drive needs to be replaced.
