Bluetooth Nightmare

I have purchased a new Lattitude X300 but not from Dell and it is a replacement for one that was stolen. The model and spec is identical and the first one worked 100% out of the box but this one suffers two seamingly unsolvable problems:

1 - Bluetooth does not function.

No applet in the control panel
No light on front display
Device manager shows drivers not installed though recognises it as a BT device
Unplug the module the the BT device goes, reverse when you plug back in
I cannot tell if it is 300 or 350 and Dell website reveals nothing

So far I have:

Searched for driver updates, been confused downloaded the latest tosh drivers, tried the MS ones, reinstalled the widcomm ones, etc. All to no avail. The tosh ones freeze at 56%, this seems a common problem but I find no fix for it. The widcomm ones request FNF2 to switch on the device but doing is not recognised. If have tried to restart the MS ones but it seems I have to step back to SP1 and then repeat the installation process which means wiping the machine with a clean OS install, not a preferred option.

If I try manually updating the driver it returns the message "A service installation section in the .INF file is invalid" and fails to install.

BT is not essetial but I have become used to it and would like to have it so any ideas are welcome before I give this machine flying lessons!

2 - DVD/CD RW. My old machine had a RW drive and the new one appears identical but I cannot get it to be recogised as a RW only CD ROM and DVD ROM. I have downloaded the patches but they make no difference.

Again any ideas....

Thanks, John

    John,

Welcome to the Dell User Forum,

If it is new and had the Bluetooth Option installed, it is TM350 (since February '05).

Check BIOS Setup (F2 on bootup) that it is on.

Device Manager would need to show Drivers to go further on the issue,
as that is where you could select MS or Toshiba Stack/Drivers to be
    installed or changed.

MS Stack is only available with SP2, will auto install if Bluetooth
is turned on without Toshiba or Widcomm Stack installed.

With MS Stack installed, Widcomm (or Toshiba) would not 'see' the
Bluetooth on install and you would need at that point (the 52% or "press Fn/F2") to use
    Device Manager to reassign Drivers.

"A service installation section in the .INF file is invalid" ...sounds like
what you would see for Widcomm on TM350.

DVD/CD-RW, I had to go to Roxio and install (basic + patches) to get "RW" to work on my
    D800, after SP2.

    Again, could be hardware issue.
