C PORT II
I just bought a c/port ii for my wife's latitude and everything seems to be working fine...except the rj45 plug on the back of the unit. When the cat5 cable is plugged into the dock it shows as "cable unplugged" on the screen. I have a work around...just move it to the rj45 plug on the laptop itself. I can continue to do that but I'm just wondering if there is something I need to configure or some setting I can check to activate the port on the dock?
TIA
Dennis

- The laptop is running on Windows 2000. When I plugged the pc in the first time Windows recognized the peripherals on the dock and appeared to set them up. There is a nic on board the laptop which is working, however, when the cable is plugged into the c/port the system says the network cable is unplugged.

hi, I'm Marc. Recently, this reconditioned Dell Latitude laptop (service tag 2CCQ501) was donated to my high school. It's pretty decent, although it's not a very recent model. This laptop came with a docking station. The Latitude C/Port II. It has functioned well, except for its infrared port. I've been looking at online documentation and it has been indicated that there is supposed to be a wireless control panel. I don't see this at all. The laptop came without any operating system and now Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 is installed.
How do I get the infrared port working?- Rollie, you said
"If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, then there is no Quick Install, because all the necessary files are included in the Operating System."
Does this mean that no drivers and/or setup are needed to dock a Latitude C600 running
XP in the C/Dock II station? On the C/Dock CD there are only 95, 98 and NT drivers, and
they won't install on XP, it gives several error messages. Would I just dock the comp,
and boot it up? The comp works fine undocked, I am just nervous about docking it without
drivers, I have heard that the drivers ~must~ be installed first, or mayhem will surely
follow. Any help would be appreciated... This thread is mixed up. There are two different problems posted by two different users.
As for the C Port II, cable unplugged, problem:
There should be two NIC's when you dock the laptop. One in the laptop and one in the c/port II. I am willing to bet that Windows does not see the one in the c/port and the cable unplugged message is really for the nic in the laptop. Go into device manager to see how many nic's listed. Please list the model of the two nic's.
- i finally wrote to Dell support and got an aswer, thought i'd post it here, it may help someone else... XP has the drivers for the C/Dock II already, i was able to just dock the Latitude and the drivers installed automatically, and it is working fine...
