Connection Problems
I just purchased a new DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop, I just received it and tried connecting it to my internet at home. I have a router but it shows it is connected to the system but it will not go on line. Any suggestions? I have tried calling customer service several times and I cannot understand anything they are saying, I finally got one Thursday night that walked me thru several things to try and he ended up telling me there was something wrong with the mother board and to call customer service and return it. I plan on doing that first thing Monday, but I really don't know if that is the problem. My home computer has windows XP and my new one has Windows vista any suggestions would be of great help. My old laptop worked but I had to put a card into it each time I wanted to use the wireless.
Thanks
Vickie

Steve,
Thanks but I'm so new at this I don't know what SSDI is. Yes, my desktop is connected to a LINSKSYS router and attached to that is an Ethernet Speedstream, then on My old laptop they gave me a card to put into the side whenever I wanted to get onto the internet. I really think you might be on the right track but I don't understand. My internet provider is suppose to be coming out and updating my router but it will take them a couple of weeks. I had called the customer support and they told me to return the darn thing that it was the mother board..
Dear Vickie,
Return it!
I know it is bold for me to say this. However, I have been experiencing the same problem with a neighbor who I encouraged to order the Inspiron 1525 laptop from Dell in March.
I posted this message in another board today.

This is my first post after 10 hours on the telephone with a Dell technician:

God Bless you,

Ok, let's start from scratch and try to diagnose the problem. Start by doing the following:
On the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Steve,
Thanks for the help, but I have decided just to return everything I have purchased minus the portable hard drive. I don't want to do anything that is not covered under the warranty or give DELL any excuse to cause me problems. I have always had DELL computers and never ever have had this type of problem or any problem at all, so I am thinking this is a lemon computer. I had my internet service provider come out and they have exchanged my service and it still won't connect and they wouldn't do anything to try with the lap top because I haven't even had it a week.
Thanks again, maybe in the future I will order from dell again.
Vickie

You never really said so, but I am assuming you are trying to connect by wireless. Is this the case? If so, is your router configured to not broadcast its SSID? If so, note that Windows Vista will not connect to a router that is not broadcasting its SSID unless you create a profile. If the router is broadcasting its SSID, but it still won't connect, have you configured any firewalls that are running to allow an internet connection?
