Corrupt directory XPS 1530

For some reason my laptop started having problems and I made no changes to the system or programs.  I can't access Windows Media, Task Scheduler doesn't work, chkdsk utility doesn't, and all .exe files say corrupt file and shows, "The file in directory C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.

    Try to run the startup repair if you are using windows Vista operating system:

     

     

    Steps are...........

     

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Tap the key during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.  (If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, restart the computer, and try again.)

       

    3. Press the key until Repair Your Computer is highlighted, and press the  key.
    4. When the System Recovery Options window appears, click to select your language, and click Next.
    5. Log in as a user with administrative rights, and click OK. 
    6. From the Choose a recovery tool menu, click Startup Repair.  (Startup Repair  proceeds to check the system for issues and resolve them.)
    7. Once completed, click Finish.
    8. Click Restart.

    Thanks, I'll try it.  I removed Dell Support Center and folders and reinstalled the program but the same problem exist.  I checked for directory C:\Windows\assembly from Windows explorer but no files are listed.

    Your solution worked, I just now have o search chkdsk to fix a change to the regedit file.  I have autocheck* program not found on every reboot error message.
