No, the SIM card alone is useless - you must have an AT&T compatible GSM-GPRS/HSPDA card, and a data contract on your cell phone service.  You can get the card from Dell if you don't have it.  If you do have the WWAN card, then all you need is to add the data plan to your voice service if you don't already have it - in most cases it's about $30 a month over and above your cell phone charges.

If the eject works outside of Windows, something - your DVD writer software perhaps - is locking the drive.

The SIM socket by itself is not useable - you must use a SIM card in conjunction with a WWAN card supported by the wireless carrier (in the US, that's AT&T or T-mobile) with which you have your wireless phone/internet contract.

Make sure your DVD software isn't running - if it is it may lock the drive so you cannot eject it by hardware.

    Correct me if i'm wrong

so i just have to insert my AT&T sim card in the sim card slot yep?

    -------

aaaaa my eject button will work when i'm in BIOS or before my OS begin to boot (VISTA ultimate SP1) so i'm sure it's not a hardware failur cuz Fn+F10 not working either

    any idea?

just one thing all of this happend when i'm installed SP1 upgrade you think this prbolem is from sp1?

If you ordered the system with the WWAN card for your wireless carrier (it's not standard equipment), you then need to contact them to obtain and activate a SIM card if you've one of the system that uses such a device.  In the US, AT&T and T-mobile do;  Verizon and Sprint do not.

Hi I have similar question, I got the same laptop for my mum and was wondering if its possible to use the SIM slot for mobile broadband instead of the USB Modem (like this one http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/products/view.do?id=2020 ) all carierrs offer mobile broadbands that need external modems either USB or Mini Card, those modems have SIM Cards inside,  I was wondering if you could use the built in slot to put that SIM Card in and loose the external modem?

also if the laptop needs additional hardware for this to work can you advise how do I ascertain it has or hasnt got it ?

    please advise,

    thanks in advance,

You can use the SIM socket with the internal WWAN card socket, but not by itself.

You need a WWAN card in addition to the SIM card.

Is there any way that I can purchase the WWAN card and make it work down here in Managua, Nicaragua, we have the 3G network and the UMTS, I have a subscription with them, but I would like not to use the USB modem and get the WWAN card so that I embbeded in my computer, do you think If I get in the U.S would work with the Chip here in Nicaragua?
