If you wipe the partition, you need to recreate a 2GB Logical partition (with drive letter assigned, it does not need to be "D").

Run the Reader 2.0 software from within your Windows OS

 

Extract then install, follow the instructions and make sure you select the partition you made for the Reader.

Once install is completed, go to start menu and then configure the Reader software (set password, email synch settings etc).

Now when you press the reader button, it should work perfectly!

Have similar situation.

Created a 2GB partition with a logical drive letter, during installation do not get any option to select the drive for installation.

At the end get error - 'Error 1324 The Path Program Files contains an invalid character.'

Any advice?

Hmm This is an old thread so maybe the link I put up is out of date now.

Also, you need to make sure that the partition is formatted as FAT32 (as this is a linux partition and will not support NTFS).

I have never seen that error you are experiencing.

If you are having issue (not sure what OS you have)s then try partitioning using diskpart, use the command "create partition extended"

OS is Win 7 Pro

Earlier partion was NTFS, reformatted it now to FAT32. Tried installation again but throws same error.

In BIOS Latitude ON Reader is checked.

I used EASEUS Free to create partition.

Do you mean it should be extFAT?

Lets start from scratch.

Go to disk management in Windows 7 and then delete the partition you have created.

Make sure the 2GB bit thats left now is "unallocated space"

Now go to command line and type "diskpart"

This will open a new command line window.

Type "list disk" and then select the hard drive that the unallocated space is on eg. "select disk 1"

Once the correct disk is selected, then type "create partition extended"

Now exit diskpart.

Then right click on new partition in disk management and assign a drive letter. Then name the partition "READER"

Now format as FAT32 .

Now run the installer file in windows (you need to have outlook installed and configured first).

Select the drive letter you assigned to READER partition to install on.

If this still does not work, then maybe the reader download is old and you need to find a new link on the dell support site.

Im sure if you ring dell prosupport, they can sort it out for you.

 

To get rid of the problem temporalily remove all the drive letters from all partitions apart from your Windows disc and the Reader partition. Also unmap all network drives.

You can use Disk Management for the drive letters.
