Emergency CDs & Floppies Fail
I just bought an Inspiron 1501, and am moving my software to it from an Insp 1000 which will be donated.
I use Norton System Works, Norton Save/Restore, and VComm Partition Commander, among others ( including the PQuest Drive IMage ).
All of these come with a bootable CD, or allow you to make a bootable emergency floppy set.
Problem is: While they worked on the 1000, none of them work on the 1501. I wrote off Drive Image, since that's old. But the Norton stuff is this year's.
What happens on a boot from either CD or from floppy (using a Dell USB drive ), is that it begins the load and eventually I get a message that says "mouse driver not loaded".
I downloaded the latest touchpad drivers ( March, 2007), but that didn't help.. I also downloaded some dos drivers ( syntouch.exe) but of course that can only be addedd to the floppies. But it didn't work.
Any ideas? The machine works fine overall, but if I can't perform an emergency restart, what good is it?

- Mary:I'm using Windows XP Home Edition ( I passed on Vista ).The software was removed from the Insp 1000 and installed on the 1501. And yes, the floppies were made on the 1501, although the CDs, of course, were not.In the case of the NOrton stuff, I believe (unless they've changed it) they use standard Dos-like files, so all of the emergency sets are pretty much like one another. ( That wasn't true with the older Norton Utilities REcovery Sets, which included an image of the MBR)Thanks for the fast response.-Chuck R.
