Error when installing Notebook System Software (NSS)

I just received my Dell Inspiron 9100. After formating it and installing Windows XP Professional onto the main drive, and installing the basic drivers, I can't seem to get my external hard disk drive working. It seems that the chipset driver won't recognise the USB2.0 modules and thinks they're 1.1 modules instead.

I searched the forums and someone said that I should install the NNS software before attempting to install the chipset drivers. I unpacked the drivers from the Dell Resource CD, but when I try to install it tells me that "This computer does not support this operating system."! What am I doing wrong? This is a normal Windows XP Professional package, so I have no idea why it would give an error message like that.

If someone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I just downloaded the latest NSS of about 40MB, but it still gives the exact same error.

I believe you need to install Service Pack 1 (or service pack 2 if you wish) before NSS will install.  Good Luck!

Thank you for responding! This'll make copying around about 70GB of files in total from my one computer to my new one a lot easier. :)
