Hi,
i did the steps you told me to do. i removed the battery and did hold the power button of 1 minute. i put the battery on and started it.. now. i'm not facing that problem. "restarting again and again". but still its taking very much time to show me the welcome screen, also laptop is functioning very slow... should i format it.
also another problem is my DVD writer is not working. i didn't mentioned it before cause i was unsure about it, what will it cost to replace the part in Indian rupees.
Thanks & regards,
Swapnil Gawde

Hi Swapnil Gawde,
Slow performance can be either due to a hardware problem or a software problem. To isolate where the problem is, I would request you to run the diagnostics on the computer once. To run the diagnostics follow the steps below:
- Shut down the computer
- Power it back on and start tapping F12 key on the keyboard
- You should see Boot Menu Screen
- Select the option diagnostics and press enter key.
- Let the diagnostics run
The diagnostics can take upto a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes to run. After the diagnostics are complete, please reply if you have come across any error message while running the diagnostics. If there are no error messages, then we can be sure that there is no hardware problem and accordingly proceed with the troubleshooting.
For the DVD drive, what is the exact problem you are facing? Is it not getting detected in My Computer? Please elaborate the DVD Drive issue so that I can help you for that as well.

Hi Swapnil Gawde,
Thank you for the screenshot, it was quite helpful.
This error code 2000-0146 means there could be a possible hardware failure to the computer. Because at times this same error code also relates to bad operating system files. To be sure, we will run another custom test on the hard drive. Here are the instructions on how to run these tests:
- We will have to initiate the same Diagnostic again from the F12 menu. You may or may not get this 2000-0146 error code. Let the tests run and when they are finished you will get a message "Do you want to run the remaining memory tests? Press Y or N"
- So press N and look for the next screen which says press any key to boot to Utility Partition. So as soon as you see this message press the enter key.(you will have to be a little quick here)
- Then once you press enter, you will get two options, Test System and Test Memory.
- Select Test System.
- Next, select Custom Test.
- Now you will see all the list of devices on the computer screen. Look for Hard Drive and on the top left hand corner of the Hard Drive box you will see an option Quick Test. Run the Quick Test and if you see any error messages then please let me know with the error code.
Appreciate your co-operation.

hi. i tried as you told me to do. i initiates the same diagnostics again. also received this error message again "2000-0146". i let the tests run but its not showing the message "Do you want to run the remaining memory tests? Press Y or N". it 's just restarting again and again.
i think it will be good if i will get it repaired from dell only. but i don't know how exactly i can do that. where i can send my laptop for the repairs.
i showed laptop to my personal engineer, but he was also unable to fix it.

Hi Swapnil Gawde,
After the message "Do you want to run the remaining memory tests? Press Y or N" and when you press N, does the computer restart? If no, then please follow the steps mentioned in the previous post again and share the results. Also, is your laptop still under warranty? If yes, then please send me your contact details and the name on the account under whom the computer is registered. Also send me the computer's service tag or the express service code. You can send all these details via Private Message.
To send a Private Message, click on my name and then on the next page towards the right hand side click on 'Send a Private Message". Please do not post any of your personal information here on the open forum as it is visible to all.

Hi Swapnil Gawde,
Let's try this. We will create a Bootable CD for the Diagnostics as it will help us to identify whether the problem is really with the hard drive or with the Windows. Please follow the steps below to create a Bootable CD.
1. First, we need to download the Diagnostics. Click here to download them.
2. Next, once the webpage is open, download the .exe file extension as in the image below:
3. Once this file has been downloaded, double click to extract the file.
4. Select the location where to extract and then click OK. Default location will C:\dell\drivers\R293972
5. Once extracted, open the folder with the name R293972 and find the file named DDDP like in the image below:
6. Double-Click on this file DDDP and then a window will pop-up, click on create a Bootable CD like in the image below:
7. You will need a Blank disk and then you can go ahead and follow the instructions to create a bootable cd.
8. Once the cd has been created, you can shut the computer down and power it back on, tap the F12 key on Dell logo for 5 to 6 times and select Boot from a CD from the Boot menu.
9. Run the diagnostics on the hard drive and share the results.
Hope this helps.

Hi Swapnil Gawde,
You may also try to create a bootable USB to run the diagnostics. There is an option to create a bootable USB drive as well in the application. You may also take the computer to the nearest Dell Authorized Service Center for repairs. Warranty renewal is still possible but you may have to pay a little extra amount to get the computer registered under warranty again.
For more details and pricing on warranty you can contact your nearest Dell Authorized Outlet / call Dell Technical Support or you can let me know if you are interested and I can have a call back arranged.

Hi swapnil gawde,
Lets first try and remove some residual power from the computer. Here are the steps below:
Now, plug the battery and the charger back in. Power on the computer and check what happens now. If its still not fixed, then try to power on the computer with just the charger (with battery removed) and just the battery (with charger unplugged) and see what happens.
Do you see the Dell logo when the computer powers up? When does it restart, before the Dell logo appears or after it? Does it give any message on the screen?
Additionally, you can also run the diagnostics and report if there is any error or not. To run the diagnostics, power on the computer and start tapping F12 key and then select the option diagnostics and press enter.
Please reply with your findings.
