graphics card upgrade

I have an inspiron 9400 that should be arriving at my house tomorrow morning and i was talking to other people who told me that the graphics card that comes standard(the intel integrated graphics media accelerator 950) is not good at all and this has prompted me to upgrade to the 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 card, which is the next best option and cost $99. anyone know anythign about it or either of the cards? i have a 3 year on site warranty and wanted to know that if i upgrade, do they send someone to do the upgrade or do i have to send my laptop in to them?

You need to do any upgrades yourself or have it done by computer shop. Dell does not do upgrades after the sale and delivery. The warranty just covers the hardware you ordered. For what it's worth, the video you are getting is perfectly fine. Try it out before deciding to upgrade. You might be happy with what you already ordered.

It depends what you want to do with it. For general computing, watching DVDs, etc., a Radeon x1300 is fine. For games, upgrading to a Geforce 7900GS is a VERY good idea-it makes your system many, many times faster than it is with a Radeon x1300, and will literally make your laptop useable for years longer.

So basically if it's just for general computing stuff, you're fine. If you want to play games now or in the future, send it back for one with a Geforce 7900GS.

sam, unfortunatly if youve ordered your laptop with the intel intigrated graphics, the motherboard you are given lacks the pci express connector needed for the ati video cards. You need to have originaly ordered it with a pcie video card installed before you can think about upgrading it.
