Grey Screen
I have an old Alienware aurora m9700, the only reason I am here is that i know Dell owns alienware and alienware's support and forums have declined lately to horrible levels. Well anway, i was just watching some youtube videos as we all do, and my screen turns grey with several vertical multicolored lines, nothing else goes wrong, the sound still works, and there is a moving vertical line that i suspect to be my cursor. Restart didnt help. IT is now several hours later and it still doesnt work. I am just wondering what the heck happened. I suspect that something is wrong with the graphic card(s). I am going to try to switch the cards, as the m9700 has sli gpu, and disassemble/reassemble the sli unit and see what happens, but i wont be able to get around to that for a few days . So i was just hoping i could get some help/advice. Please, i am forced to use a Toshiba and it is horrible. Thanks for your help. Devin

Well nothing i said i was going to do worked, so i decided to do something i should of done in the first place and plugged it into a seperate monitor, and it worked. What would be causing it to not display on its own monitor, dead/defunct monitor? bad connections? bad wires? I have already check all wires and connections on the monitor side, seemingly nothing wrong, this weekend i will probably check them on the motherboard side and hopefully find the problem. Any advice/different ideas? Thank you. Devin

Welcome to the forums Devin :emotion-21:
And you think the support is going to be any better in here :emotion-3:
As a browse of the forums will show... many forum members on here are also having nightmares trying to get [effective] tech support :emotion-6:
From what you've said, I assume you've already tried the various tech support options available to you - i.e. telephone, Live Chat, +/or email?
Thankfully however... there are many clued up community members who might be able to offer you advice.
In the meantime though, you're stuck with me :emotion-3:
What OS are you using first of all?
Have you tried reinstalling/updating the graphics drivers?
I don't know what version Dell offers on the Aurora M9700 'Drivers & Downloads' page, but you can download/use the latest notebook graphics drivers directly off the Nvidia website.
Other than the graphics drivers - although they probably don't have any bearing on the problem you're having, are all your other drivers up-to-date (in Device Manager)?
You're talking there as if it was going to be as easy to do that in a laptop, as it is to do in a desktop system!?
I take it you've had plenty of experience in stripping laptops, and working on the various components?
