i9200 wuxga screen
Is Dell ok when they sent this screen? like really, the screen is no good. it has a grainy look on it that many of us who has them hates alot. so dell moderators, whats your response. we thaught we were gonna get a great system but seeing this new inspiron is just like a scam. pls reply!!!
ow yea, the only reason i bought this because i have 4 dell computers and trust them very well. until now???
for dell moderators, pls look into one before responding. the ones with the wxga+ doesnt seem to have this "grainy look on the screen.
im so upset. im only 19 and paid 2 grand for this cause it thought i was gonna get a great product but for right now, i wont even recommend dell to anyone trying to buy a computer.

We are all well aware what the native resolutions for the WUXGA and WXGA are. Our concerns rests with the difference in "coating" and the "diffraction grid" present on the WUXGA that is NOT present on the WXGA. People with hthe WUXGA have unanimously declared it disappointing. There must be a reason and an answer other than quoting us native resolutions.
It should be added that the complaints relate to LCD screen quality and not running the screen at a resolution other than native which causes blurryness as explained in the FAQ. This is a different problem.
I'm sorry for the harshness of my tone, but after plunking down a very large sum, you can understand my concern.

hey bob,do you even have a 9200 to look at. of coarse we know the resolution sizes when we paid about a hundred dollars for it????Pls get one i9200 with uxga screen and tell me that there is nothing wrong with it???DELL-David W

First, let me apologize for Bob's post. That was much too abbreviated to be of use. He was trying to point out [as another customer has already stated in this thread] that you need to check the resolution and make sure it is 1920x1200 for this panel for optimal viewing.
WUXGA LCDs are the highest resolution panels available in the market today, with almost twice as many pixels as a WXGA panel [1.3MPixels vs 2.4MPixels]. The sparkling effect may be more noticeable on the Dell industry standard anti-glare surface due to the technology leading high brightness back light system. Please confirm that the resolution is set to the optimal native resolution 1920 x 1200 for WUXGA.
As always, Dell wants our customers to have the best experience possible, so we offer multiple display options, empowering customers to customize the system to their liking.
Personally, I have used an Inspiron 9200 with the WUXGA panel for several weeks now and think they are fantastic. The colors seem more vivid and it's bright and crisp in my opinion. Some may still prefer the older technology, of course. That's a preference thing. I think the people posting in this thread are in that group and I can understand that.
If I have a misunderstanding about your concerns, please post more information about them. There are many factors like DPI, font scaling, ISP acceleration, JPEG compression, technology advancements, screen size, resolution settings and other display settings that can impact what you see on an LCD. We could be looking at a combination of factors, if you look at the different threads.

WEll i thank you for your clear response. But doesnt it bother your eyes when you have a light color background. i can also say that the pix are really crisp and clear for me, i also use word, powerpoint, and excel and has a white background on the back. i love the 1920x1200 resolution that i have right now and change the dpi to 92 normal size. everything looks clear just the cover seems to act like a magnifier that looks like a laser pointing in your eyes, at least thats how i feel. im just really disappointed cause it did take time to save up for this and i really expected to get alot especially from dell.DELL-David W

Thanks for your immediate replies. I can't believe I'm still working at this hour. You guys should be in bed! [Well maybe not Demo, he said Cheers, so that might mean he's in England {I love vacationing there}].
Anyway, if we are still talking about the vibrant colors, I would have to say I love it. At this moment, I'm typing on a 15" Inspiron 4150. The technology is a bit older. The colors are a bit more muted. I find this totally acceptable, however, the LCD doesn't leap out at you like the 9200 does. Dell worked hard at providing the best and latest technology at the lowest price. The 9200 WUXGA panel is awesome. I would recommend it.
If I understand your concerns, if you look at a solid color [say - the windows blue startup screen or a solid color in an application] and move your head side to side, it will sparkle [or appear slightly grainy]. That is the nature of this technology.
- why would we be in bed?.... what's the point in getting a new computer if you don't stay up all night on it messing around :)Just received mine tuesday. Again, same as everyone else, Super satisfied with everything except for the screen. Not that big of a deal. as the previous mesaage stated, I do not want the 17 inch with low pixels, ... so must stick with this. I love the high quality res., etc.It is agravating that it looks so perfect on videos, pics, games, etc. Very very nice, except for on light color solid backgrounds... guess I'll just get used to it. I will deal with it to get all of the other good features and high res.If it were normal I wouldn't mind, I had never seen this good of res. on a big screen and stuff so I thought this was just normal for the higher quality resolutions and screens, but since hearing that other brands don't have this blurred sparkling problem it does aggitate me.jslessley
- I received my 9200 WUXGA a couple of days ago. I too am a bit disappointed with the display for a couple of reasons:
1. Screen coating - many have refer to it as the sparkling effect. It sorta remind me of those plastic coating on the double image cards that shows you different picture depending the angle you look at it from. Another way to put it, imagine a fine screen mesh. I find it a bit distracting and uncomfortable on the eyes. Not sure I can get used to it. In the old days Trinitron monitors used to have 2 thin wires going across to stabilize the grill, and it was the sort of thing I got used to after a while. All said, I prefer the white back ground on my 4100 1400x1050 screen which is solid and smooth.
2. Variation in screen brighness and contrast - if you open a big window, the difference in light level at different area in the window is distracting.
I wish I can see the difference between the WUXGA and the WXGA+ (please don't tell me the resolutions - I am aware of it and yes I am running at native resolution). It would be hard for me to go back to WXGA+ on a 17" for I am used to a 14" 1400x1050. Besides it seems rediculous to lug around a 17" which has fewer pixels than my current 14".
Other than that, I really like this laptop: relatively light, clean and beautiful design, great fit and finish, great keyboard, awesome sound, quiet (fans run all the time, but they are hardly audible).
Not sure if I would keep it due to the screen. Perhaps Dell will have a better screen in the future and I can swap out the screen, or perhaps I can put a Sony screen in it (dream on).
May be it will look better in a few days. Not! May be I will get used to it. Perhaps, if I don't go blind before then.
