My Inspiron 5150 starts up with the "white screen" only on the lcd screen but an external monitor works fine. So that means that the video card needs to be replaced?

If your internal LCD does not work but an external monitor works fine, then it is your LCD that needs replacing, not your video card.obiwanmitch

Oh my goodness, I just took my display panel off the body of the laptop, disconnected all the cables to the display itself (connections on the backside of the panel) then reconnected them and now it works fine (knock on wood). Weird.
