Inspiron 1501 charging problems
im having problems charging the battery. most of the time it will not charge straight away when i plug the ac adaptor in, but after i reconnect the adaptor a few times it starts to charge. Also, this has recently only started happin after installing vista.does this mean that theres a fault with the ac power port, the adaptor or the motherboard? and how much would it cost to replace items if theyre faulty, as my warranty has ran out?
Any help apreciated :)

there isnt any power options in the bios, the only thing that tells me its not working correctly at start-up is wen it says "the ac adapter can not be determined,please reconnect" i thought the warranty was the 90 day car thing, or is the warranty separate?

What do you mean by this statement? You have a year warranty. The 1501 is a new system that's only been out since last fall.Inspiron 1501, TL-50, 2gig ram

try turning the wall side of the plug in around on the bigest part of the charger cord to where the cord is going down the part that says dell on it and that worked for me. and by the way the part if you need it should only cost mabey 13 to 50 dollars.

I too am having a problem charging my 1501 after installing Vista. Microsoft told me to flash the BIOS--I did that, but still won't charge--stops at 5%. Now it says plugged in, not charging when battery is at 0%. I say it's an issue with Vista, worked fine before installing that.
Any suggestions?

your problem is exactly the same as mine, although sometimes my battery would still charge if i fiddled around with the ac adapter. i thought the problem was related to vista, but it doesnt really have anything to do with it.
If you can, try and get another adapter. if another adapter charges the battery, then the other ac adapter is faulty. if it still wont charge then its likely to be a broken connecter on the motherboard.
it could also be that your battery has short circuited and wont charge anymore.
if your system is still in warranty, phone dell and they should give you another adapter for nothing.

I am not sure what to do either. If you have fixed your problem, please let me know. Hope your problem is corrected.
