Did you press on the power button with or without the battery and adapter? Make sure you take out the battery and adapter, then press the power button for 15secs. If still no go, try to remember the last thing you were doing on the system before this problem started and contact Dell tech support for assistance.

    Peace!

Did you replace the motherboard?  We have the same problem.  We bought our Inspiron 2650 13 months back.  Four days ago, the screen went black for no reason and we were unable to turn on the laptop ever since.  We called the tech support and they said it might be motherboard failure.  How can this happen?  Is it a problem of Inspiron 2650 in general?

The cost of replacing the motherboard is about 60% of the cost of the laptop itself.  Whether we replace the motherboard or not, it will make Dell the most expensive computer ever -- (1) if we don't replace the motherboard, that means our $1,100 only last 13 months; (2) if we do replace the motherboard, the cost of the laptop goes up by 60%.  How can Dell claim to "believe in creating loyal customers by providing a superior experience at a great value"???  Anyone has any suggestion?

Same exact problem on my 2650.  Exactly 14 months and it won't take a charge from the AC adapter,  I tried all the tech support tips, including some from general knowledge.  Nothing worked.  I bought a new AC adapter, still no charge.

Dell says its a motherboard problem which BS because the computer ran fine without the ac adapter for 2 weeks, until the battery went out.

Does anyone have any suggestions on preventing Dell from ripping us off by telling us its a motherboard problem?!

    Please help

See my note to Dell below

My Inspiron 2650 was delivered to me Dec 19th 2002

Our Inspiron 2650 has been operating fine until 48 hours ago( Aug 9th 2004). We've never been notified that there was a problem, so we would have no reason to inquire. It's obvious based on your comments that Dell acknowledges this issue and is taking responsibility. I've spoke to every department in your company and keep getting returned back around and around. The most reasonable person was at 866-245-3844. My son leaves for college at the end of this month and he needs his computer working.

No one at Dell will authorize this repair
