Inspiron 6000 display
Inspiron 6000 display 15.4", ATI Mobility Radeon X300 adapter; display has multiple vertical lines - colored (1pixel?) and a large vertical line - white (~1").
How can I tell if adapter is bad, connector, or LCD? If I connect an external display to VGA or s-video, will that help define the problem?

The vertical line issue is a known issue on the display panels on several models made during a specific period of time. Be persistent. Ask to be forwarded to Customer Relations in Texas. After several years of calling and complaining, my laptop eventually went out of waurantee. But I received a replacement yesterday and replaced it myself using the instructions posted on the Dell site. Be persistent. Don't be discouraged by tech support.

Yes you can help to define the problem by connecting an external display to VGA and see if there is such display distortion. If there is, it means you've got a bad video card/motherboard. If the problem does not show up on the external screen, it is either a problem with the connector, or the laptop LCD panel.
