Inspiron 6000 Standby Issues

Hello, I read through the other threads concerning standby problems on new 6000 systems, but none of them ended if a concise unviversal (and permanent) fix.  So I am starting this thread as a stab in the dark, hoping that a solution has arisen almost 5 months after the original post stating this problem.

I have the same problem as most people in the relevant threads.  My computer is less than a week old and had problems with standby before I even touched anything.  It goes into standby, but when I try to recall it, the system turns on (green power light comes on) and I can hear the fan, but the monitor remains off, and you never hear the system boot.  Caps lock doesnt work as the keyboard is completely unresponsive.

I assume this is the result of some flaky program or setting that does not shut down/start up properly, and freezes the comp coming out of standby.  I would appreciate all constructive responses as to why this may happen and a real solution to this problem (Not unplugging my mouse).

Also I would like to know the responses people have gotten from Dell, and why I didnt see a moderator addressing these issues in the previous threads.

Thank you in advance for any help in the matter.

Are you using a USB mouse?

I experienced the same problem when putting my 6000D into standby.  After a lot of trial and error I finally found that if I unplug my USB mouse (MS Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse) when going into standby I am able to resume with no problems.

No, I am not using a USB mouse.   I actually dont have anything plugged into my computer besides the power cable.  And the problem occurred before I even installed anyting on the computer.  Thank you for responding though.

I am hoping somebody might have a better insight into this problem as in the reasoning behind it.

Any body else have any input with this problem?

To add, I have also been doing trial and error.  It seems that the problem usually occurs after being in standby for about an hour or longer.

    Help please

    Hi,
Just wanted to add my own experiences, although I don't have a fix I am afraid. I also have a new (few conths old) Dell Inspiron 6000, one of two identical models, bought a few weeks apart. Both have similar but not totally identical software landscapes (o/s xp pro) and both have been displaying this behaviour pretty much from new. By behaviour I mean exactly as you describe in your posting. Standby mode seems to work exactly as it should for short periods but anything over an hour or so and it will never return. When attempting to bring it out of standby the power light goes from flashing to solid, but no other lights, noises, signs of life, etc are apparent and it seems the only way out is to hold the power button to switch off.
Whilst ideas like unplugging the mouse and not using standby at all are interesting they do not address what seems to me like it may be a more fundemental issue. So I would also be very interested to know if anyone has heard of a particular power mgmt setting or driver or whatever which needs to be changed/updated.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I fixed mine by removing the plastic button that closes the switch when you close the top. It dosen't do anything when I close it but it never gets stuck in standby anymore. The plastic piece was broken and needs to be replaced.

try going into power management and changing the standby setting to "never". Then restart and change it back to your original setting if you want. Also make sure to install the driver on the dell support site if you have an ATI mobility radeon x300.

I simply changed the settings so that when the laptop closes it hibernates instead of standby.

So despite my doubts, I finally finished performing all of the suggested "solutions".  However, none of them worked.

Is there anyway to get to the root of this problem?  Is it possible to get a response from an administrator who could suggest another way of going about doing this?

I also would like to find out who used dell chat for this problem.  I tried going on last night, but after refreshing the page for 5 minutes straight, I never got connected.  How can they not address that the computers come flawed?

    Anyone?

I'm wondering if all new Inspiron 6000's have this problem or if it is only a few?

Well I finally used Dell Chat and all they told me was that I should contact Dell On call which is of course a fee based tool.  This is because my warranty covers only hardware issues.  So what they are telling me is that they even if they ship faulty software with my computer, and it is my responsibilty to fix.

After researching this matter further, I have found that dell already knows that this problem exists, but continues to ship the computers since it is not seen as a hardware problem.  Thanks Dell.  Now they want me to pay them more money in order for them to tell me how I can use standby.  Gee, that sounds perfectly fair to me.
