Inspiron 6000

I need help making a backup disk so I can reformat. Can anyone help me??

if you have a usb drive then get acronis true image11 trial version and do a image backup on the usb drive.

A friend of mine said I there should be a backup right on the computer

The backup is used by pressing CTRL-F11 once at the Dell boot screen. Be sure you have backed up all data on the drive as it will be overwritten as part of the restore process.
