Inspiron N5030 Fireware?
I am a recording engineer and was just gifted an inspiron n5030 to use as my portable recording device. To record audio into protools(recording software), I need to connect my audio unit via firewire to the laptop. I got a usb/firewire hub as a gift because they thought it would convert firewire to usb, therefore allowing me to connect my firewire device to the laptop that does not have firewire ports. Well after realizing the conversion of firewire to usb doesnt seem to exist, i began researching to see if I could add a firewire port to my inspiron n5030 and had a hard time finding results. I am now a new excited member of the dell community and am hoping to get some expert advice.
Can I add a Firewire port to my inspiron n5030? or is there something better/cheaper that can work in my situation?
Thanks,
Joel

I bought a set of travel adapters that plug into USB ports on ebay quite inexpensively, some of them have a USB plug on one end and a firewire plug on the other.
That's not going to work for him whatever it is that you bought.
Probably the best option is to buy a notebook with an Express Card socket, and add your own firewire controller - most of the external audio setups need the Texas Instruments firewire chip, which is easy to find in Express Card format.

If you must have one with internal firewire, the Latitude E6510 has it.
The Latitude E5510 does.
Or any laptop that has an ExpressCard slot can support an ExpressCard with Firewire ports. This might actually be a better option since it will give you the option of Firewire 800. Not sure if the E5510's is Firewire 400 or Firewire 800.

No, there is no way to add firewire to this model - you need a different model system or some other type of audio system (USB,not firewire).
