Laptop crashes

Hello I have a 1420 thats about 10 months old and up until yesterday it worked fine.  Now it keeps crashing doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing although the more system resources I use seem to make it crash faster.  When it crashes the screen turns funny colors and is all distorted and the only way to get it to do anything is to hold down the power to turn it off and then turn it back on again sometimes it even does it while its starting up.  I have tried installing the graphics card's drivers and reinstalling them, I'm sure its not over heating(processors/graphic card) because I have a program that tells me their temps. Also tried a system restore and a defrag(didn't think it would help).  only thing I have done different at all lately with it was I actually drained the battery completely for the first time and I had it in the back of a car(in a laptop case) but it was kind of on top of a pile of bags with lots of stuff around it, was pretty sure it was secure but you never know.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. If needed I can give my laptop specs when I get home(at work at the momment)

Now I can only get it to start in safe mode, when trying a normal start up I get a blue screen that says hardware failure.
