LCD problem

My wife and I both have 2 year old Inspiron 8200's which both have developed a blotchy ( for lack of a better word ) areas around the borders of the LCD screens. I am not sure if this is something to be concerned about or not. Also, not sure if this is a common problem with this model or LCD's in general and what if anything can be done abou this short of a new LCD. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have heard these referred to as "watermarks", not because they are wet areas but because thats what they look like.  Not exactly sure what causes it but I know the only fix is a LCD replacement.  If it doesn't bother you, you many as well continue using it.  I don't believe it is any indication of pending failure if that is what is bothering you.  It is not a common problem with your model or LCD's in general,  but I have seen it before.

Thanks for the info. They do look like water seeped in along the edges of the LCD. After I thought more about it, I was concerned that perhaps when I was cleaning the LCD with a water dampened cotton cloth that maybe water had indeed seeped under the edge but I am especially carefull about not doing this. It really doesn't bother me, I was just concerned about possible impending consequences.
