Missing driver(s) - unknown device
I recently purchased a used Latitude D800 and, after reformatting the HDD and doing a new install of Windows XP Service Pack 1a, there was one device that Windows XP recognizes but doesn't have a driver for. I went ahead and updated to Service Pack 2, with all required patches, but the system keeps popping up the New Device Found message, and I haven't been able to find the correct drivers on the Dell site. The equipment is listed as, "Base System Device", under "Other Devices", indicates that it is in "Location: PCI bus 2. device 1, function 3", and the Details tab shows a Device Instance ID of, "PCI\VEN_104&DEV_8204&SUBSYS_014E1028&REV_00\4&39A8502&0&0BF0". Any idea what this is and where I can find the correct driver(s) for it? Thanks, Bruce

- Your referringme to searching by "base system device" worked. It is the TI Smart Card reader, and the solution is to follow these instructions: "I've downloaded and installed the new driver (for TI smartcard) available from DELL Support under the Chipset section (R62804.exe). After installing it system requested the install of other TI driver which is available on DELL CD. After completing this install everything is finally working fine - no message of "new hardware found" every time you restart or load. Hope it will have in case you have the same problem." I had already downloaded and installed the other TI driver mentioned, so I just had a couple of "New Hardware Found" driver installation iterations, and, voila! no more problems. Thanks, Bruce
