Mouse problem
I received Dell Mouse that had red laser light at the bottom. After a few months, that red light is no more. I reported that to Dell and they sent a new mouse but the same thing - no laser red light, even though I tried different USB ports to connect the mouse. What does that mean? Is that red light at the bottom of the mouse necessary? Does that indicate a problem with the USB port module inside the computer? Should I have it fixed by Dell or just leave it alone? Thanks. Hi smdell2014,
Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear that mouse is giving you trouble. From what your describing the replacement mouse that you received is also not functioning? If this is correct do you have another system that you could test the mouse with, this should help pin the issue down either to a faulty USB port on your system or a failed mouse. Depending on the model system you have I would also recommend testing on both front /back USB ports (on a desktop) or left and right (on a notebook), commonly these ports would use differing internal hardware connections and could point to a specific internal component failure.
If the problem can’t be narrowed down to a specific USB port I would suggest checking the device manager does not have any errors listed and that the USB ports are enabled in the system BIOS.
What is the specific model of mouse you are using / have you an alternate to test? If the mouse is functioning but the laser doesn’t seem visible, some newer mice have minimal glow in comparison to older model laser mice.

Kindly note that laser mouse doesn't have a visible light at the bottom. Only optical mouse has red light at the bottom. If you don't see the red light at the bottom, but still the mouse is working fine, then it's a laser mouse. If not, you can try the steps as posted by DELL-Shawn
