Need Major Help
I just recently re-formatted my hard drive on my Inspiron 1100, thinking that I could use the boot disks and such to put the drivers back into my computer. but now I am at a loss because I cannot connect to the internet, my computers resolution won't go higher than 640 x 480 or whatever and has only 16 bit color, no drivers, and I don't know what to do. Someone help please.

Yes I have that CD and have installed all the drivers on it, however I still do not have everything I need, especially a driver for graphics since my resolution is at its lowest and the coloration is only available at 16 bit.spiked_martini

Viper is right - your CD should have the driver for your graphics on it - are you sure you've installed everything? If you can't find it on the CD, you can download it from here:
Best of luck!

The problem is that since I don't have all my drivers installed I don't have access to the internet with my laptop. I've been writing on this board through my Home PC. And I know I should have all the drivers on the CD but apparently it doesn't have the graphics portion for drivers, which is one of my main concerns as my laptop screen runs 8 bit color in 1024 x 768 mode. Anyone with any other suggestions are more than welcome and thanks to those who've attempted to help me.

Yes I tried to manually install the drives however I am not even seeing them, and as for d/l them off of the comp. I am using now it is for no use as this comp. has no cd burner. Thanks for trying to help but I guess I'm going to have to see what Dell says since no one has been able to get down to the root of the problem.spiked_martini

Have you followed these steps? They seem to confirm that your drivers & utilities CD has the driver you're looking for. Maybe the problem is the order in which you installed XP? There is a link on that page about what order everything should be done in.

If that doesn't work, and if both computers have working network cards, you could hook them up via a crossover cable to transfer the downloaded driver over. Or, I'd just get a friend to download and burn the files - you must know someone with a CD burner? I'm sure that installing the video driver I linked to will fix your problem.
Best of luck!

Well, if you're posting here, you have access to a machine that can get on the internet, so what about using that machine to download the file, and put it on a CD or something to move it to your 1100? You may also need modem or NIC drivers, and you can download those at the same time.
Or, you can try what the previous poster suggested, to see if the drivers are in fact on the CD, and go to Control Panel - System - Hardware tab - Device Manager button, and under "display adapters", go into the properties and manually update the driver... have it search in a particular location, and point it to your CD-Rom drive. If there is a compatible driver there, it should find it.
The drivers on the resource CD have to be run from the executables for each device.
An install search won't find anything because all of the driver files are packaged.
When you insert the resource CD it should autorun and ask to install itself.
If the resource program doesn't start after installation just reinsert the CD and it should autorun to the resource GUI.
From there you will be able install any drivers needed. If that isn't working you will need to follow advice above.
Use the connected system to download drivers, copy to removable media and install on the 1100..........................TD

Hey, thanks for the advice. I spoke to Dell's Tech Support and apparently it wasn't entirely my fault. The idiots that sent me my drivers CD didn't put important drivers in it such as the chipset. I'm currently d/l the drivers one by one and have come to a slight stop, I need some help. I've reached the moniters drivers, and notice all the diff. types of moniters. How do I know which one is mine? I can't go looking on my comp (obviously) and I'm looking at my invoice now and not seeing it. if anyone could help I would appreciate it.

Your laptop should come with a Dell Resource CD that has all the drivers located on it. You can install those ones.
However, those are not the up to date ones. After installing those ones, get the updated ones by going to the Download link up above.
