Replacement keyboard

Hi.  My son has a XPS M1530 Laptop which I bought in July of 2008.  His keyboard keys are popping off so I bought a new keyboard for him.  I went to the site about how to install this keyboard and printed out everything that we need to know about how to take the old keyboard out and replace with the new keyboard, etc.  On one of the pages of all these instructions it says recommended tools:  small screwdriver, phillips, etc. and it also says Flash BIOS update program CD.  What is this CD and does he have to have it?  I don't think he has this CD so what do we do now?  Can we still put the new keyboard in?  We have to take out the battery from his laptop first before doing any of this as we already know but I don't want to do any of this until I know what this Flash BiOS update program CD is.  I read all of the instructions for removing and replacing the keyboard and taking out the battery, etc. but didn't read anything about this BIOS update program CD.  Can someone please explain to me if we need this and what it's for and if we don't have it, what do we do?  Thank you for all your info.  P.S.  I find it very odd that this laptop is a little over a year old and I paid good money for this and already the keys are popping off.  Makes me wonder about Dell products now.

You do not need to update the BIOS unless you're having issues other than with the keyboard.

So if he takes the battery out of his keyboard and replaces his keyboard then puts the battery back into his laptop, it will be fine?  He wont have a problem starting it?  He isn't having any other issues except his keyboard keys are falling off so just wants to replace the whole keyboard.

Correct.  You need remove ONLY the main battery and disconnect the power supply - DO NOT remove the CMOS battery.

Is the CMOS battery the battery that is inside the laptop?  So we would know not to go inside and take that battery out right?  Only the battery by the supply cord I think is the battery that we take out.  Correct me if I'm wrong please.  Thank you.

How do we know which battery is the main battery and which one is the CMOS battery?

Correct - remove the battery from the outside of the system and unplug it.  Then replace the keyboard (be VERY careful with the latch that holds the ribbon cable to the mainboard - it is flimsy and easily broken -- and if it breaks, you'll be out a mainboard.
