Screen Problems E1705

On my laptop the entire bottom half of my screen is unusable.  It started a few weeks ago with just a few lines across the bottom of the screen and I didn't think much of it because I've had problems with my video card overheating and such in the past.  Well it got progessively worse over the last few weeks and now the lines have solidified into a half screen block that I can't see through.  I'm thinking this is just a case of my screen breaking, but I wouldn't have any idea how it happened as it primarily functions as a desktop and doesn't get moved.  So could this be a video card problem, a software program of some sort, a bug I haven't heard of?  If you guys could help me out that would be great.  I'm going to get in touch with Dell soon , but I barely have enough time in the day to type this up much less sit on the phone for hours going through all their scripts.

Thanks guys,

Fish

Attach an external monitor to the computer and check to see if the problem appears on the external monitor also.  If so, your graphics card/driver are at fault.  If not, your LCD panel is at fault and may need to be replaced.

After prolonged use it is possible your lcd inverter cable is worn out or damaged ( cable between the graphics card and the lcd ).. But you should test to make sure that it isnt preseant on an external monitor..
