Standby Issue

First off, thank you for taking the time to read about my problem and helping me solve it.  I own an Inspiron 9100 and am having some issues when I attempt to bring my laptop out of standby mode.  Everything goes smoothly, as before, but the screen stays black.  I have searched this forum and have had no luck in finding an answer.  Does anyone know what is the culprit?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.  If there is any info that is needed that was not given let me know.

    jxl301,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

First, you should understand that generally the problem is with the system going to suspend, and not resuming from suspend.  Unfortunately, there is often no way to tell that a problem occurred while going to suspend, since the system appears to suspend correctly.

Second, any driver or software that is installed on your can cause problems with suspend.  Each driver, and each application must be written to support suspend states, or they can fail.

Go to Start-Run and type in msconfig and hit enter.  The System Configuration Editor allows you to choose what loads as the system boots.  Choose Diagnostics startup and hit ok.  Say yes to reboot.  When the system boots up you will see the boot menu, make sure that Normal mode is highlighted and hit enter.  The system will now boot without loading any of the configuration files shown in the System Configuration Editor.  Please use the system like this and see if the problem happens again.  If it does not, then  you can use the System Configuration Editor to determine which file is causing the problem.
