I will be grateful for any help you can provide me with here as I have a Studio 1537 I purchased in 2009 so it is no longer under warranty.

I have had battery issues the whole time I have owned the computer, starting with "Warning: The AC adapter type cannot be determined..." error which persists to this day. Sometimes the battery would charge, sometimes it would not. When it was under warranty I received a replacement ac adapter, this did not fix it. Then I sent the laptop back to dell who could not replicate the problem and promptly returned it to me. Around this same time the wireless card became non-functional, meaning that now along with not being able to enjoy the laptop unplugged into an outlet, now I must also use our ethernet cable to go online.

I have been dealing with these issues for over a year now and when I go to boot the computer it will not work. More specifically the power light comes on and I hear audible noise of the fan or motherboard running, but nothing more than that happens no matter how long I wait. Through trial and error I realized there is 1, yes one outlet in the house where the laptop will start if I remove the battery while keeping the AC adapter plugged in and then turn it on. Occasionally while plugged into this outlet the battery will recharge but 99% of the time it will not. The rest of the time the battery says "XX%, plugged in not charging".

I am extremely tired of working around these issues but feel stuck as the $950 I paid for this machine is a significant amount of money to me and I am not ready to ditch it for a new one. Thank you for reading and I look forward to your replies.
