UNSOLVED
Studio 1747 stopped working during reinstalling system software (DVD)
Due to problems with Windows 7 prof , I decided to reinstall the system software with original Dell DVD
Rebooted and change startup from CDrom
CD started but after sometime (5') the laptop stopped (all lights were off)
Restarted, lamps go on for a few second and the laptop stops again. DVD is still inside station !
Suppose it's a overheating problem and will wait until tomorrow to try again
Have someone had this problem ?

Hello,
It is stil impossible to restore Windows7 from the reinstallation DVD. Same problem laptop switched off.
I can start normal via HD and run Dell PC doctor : all ok.
Would it work to reinstall Windows7 if I copy the DVD to a USB stick ?
I also noticed that on my harddisk there is a partition Recovery NTFS 0,3GB of 14,6GB used
Can I doe something with this ?
Thanks and regards

Hi DDh43,
Thank you for your reply.
If the recovery partition has not been deleted, you may restore your computer to factory settings. However, this could result in loss of saved data. If you wish to attempt to re-format your computer using the recovery partition, please back up all important data on an external storage device, if possible, prior to initiating the re-format process.
Click on the link below for steps to restore your computer to factory settings:

If not successful, run the PSA diagnostics on your computer to determine exact point of failure by clicking on the Youtube link below for steps.

Hi Ddh43,
Thank you for your reply.
If you are not able to find the Recovery Partition, then it may be corrupted though present, hence inaccessible.
What happens when you try to use any other dvds? The issue could be with the dvd drive or the operating system dvd may not be working properly.
Click on the link below for steps on how to transfer your Operating System from a CD/DVD to a Bootable USB. Follow the instructions carefully or you may not be successful in completing the transfer.
Let us know if further help is needed.

Finally I succeeded to create a bootable USB stick and copy files from DVD to USB stick.
on DVD files + folders occupied 6170824704 bits and on USB stick 6235668480 bits
question :
1) is this ok ?
2) is DVD still usuable ? (in procedure Hoc5Ki -at the end- I had to execute "bootsect.exe /nt60 E:" from DVD)

Hi DDH43,
Thank you for your reply.
In the error message, "bootsect.exe /nt60 E:", /NT60 Applies to Operating Systems using boot code for BOOTMGR -- NT versions 6.xx (IE: Vista, 2008, Windows 7, etc)
In case your DVD Drive is faulty, try the troubleshooting steps in this link: http://dell.to/16y0CTh to determine if the hardware is faulty.
Follow the instructions carefully in the link provided below or you may not be successful in completing the transfer.
Please reply if you have further queries.
Thanks & regards,

I tried the bootable USB stick 2 times, but the laptop did boot from the hard disk, not from the stick although the correct line was highlighted in F12 bootmenu
I also tried again with the "reinstallation DVD Windows 7 prof 64 bit" after the laptop was switches off for a night : de laptop switches off during the message on the bottom of the screen : "windows is loading files ..", perhaps after 1' from starting, no messages, all lights go out on media touch controls
I also ran diagnostis (from F12 bootmenu) : all pass
Have you an idea ?

Hi Ddh43,
Thank you for your reply.
Please try changing the boot option to USB in the BIOS (tap F2 continously to enter the System Setup/BIOS screen and under the Boot tab, select USB storage as first boot priority, then press F10 to Save&Exit the screen).
Then try booting from the USB stick. If this does not work, check if the operating system disk and the USB stick work in any other system. Please ensure you back up all important data on an external storage device prior to checking on the other computer to avoid data loss.
Please keep us posted on the results.
Thanks & regards,
Babita S

After changing the boot via F2, the laptop rebooted from the harddisk.
"check if the operating system disk and the USB stick work in any other system." : I presume this must be a Window7 64 bit system, which I do not have
I have a laptop Latude D610 and PC Dimension 5150C both with XP SP3 prof 32 bit system
Question : buying a new Reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Prof 64 bit or upgrading to Windows 8 would this be a possible solution ?, or will I face same problems as I have now
Regards

Hi Ddh43,
Since the system is shutting down when you attempt to re-install the operating system, the first thing we would recommend is that you run a built-in diagnostics on the computer to isolate and determine hardware failure issues. If the diagnostics pass successfully, you can try to manually re-install the Windows 7 operating system on your computer by following the steps mentioned in the link for re-installing Windows 7.
Alternately, you can also try to restore your computer to factory settings if the recovery partition has not previously been deleted. Please backup all important data on an external storage device prior to beginning the re-installation process to avoid data loss.
