Touchpad problem

I had a new Inspiron 3551 with major touchpad problems Dell tried to fix and finally replaced a few months ago,the new laptop touchpad is acting up now.Every day or two it will stop scrolling and the pointer will move real slowly across the screen I restart and it is usually fine but sometimes the pointer moves ok but still won't scroll until I go to the touchpad settings and the gestures is turned off so I turn it on and everything is fine but it was on before I restarted does any of this make sense ? I've tried the basic things like reinstalling the driver.

    Hi greenbp,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the computer for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS required onto the system and install it.

Also, I would advise that you refresh the drivers for the touchpad by going into the device manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below.

    1.    Open ‘Device Manager’ by clicking the Start button  . In the search box, type ‘Device Manager’, and then, in the list of results, click ‘Device Manager’.

    2.    When the device manager pops up, in the list please check for ‘Mice and other pointing device’.

    3.    Please click on the arrow mark beside ‘Mice and other pointing device’.

    4.   Right click on the touchpad device and select Uninstall.

    5.   Restart the computer and check for issue resolution.

Thank you for your quick response,I reinstalled the BIOS and uninstalled the touchpad device then reinstalled and it's working fine but it might take a day or two to see if it acts up again,I'll let you know.            Thanks again.

You must of read my mind it was doing fine till this afternoon I minimized everything and closed the lid for about 15 minutes and when I opened it back up the pointer was moving real slow and a message said you had emailed so I restarted and it's fine again so something isn't right.

It stopped working again just before I got your email so I restarted and it's fine again but a black box popped up for a split second, all I could make out was "support assist" at the top then it was gone, that has happened on the restart before but anyway I reinstalled the BIOS and video driver so we'll see. Thanks

    Hi greenbp,

Please let us know if the issue is fixed. If you are still facing the same issue the next ideal step would be is to restore the system to factory state.

Time for an update,my touchpad still acts up at random times it will stop scrolling and the pointer will move around the screen real slowly and the only thing that helps is to restart but an external mouse works fine.I tested it using Support Assist and it failed,I haven't gone through all the trouble of doing a factory reset yet because I don't want to go through all of it again when my Windows 10 gets here.
