UNSOLVED
Unknown Device
I have a message saying "You have 1 device without a driver". When I check Device Manager I see the problem listed as Unknown Device. Not knowing the type of device leaves me scratching my head as to what driver I'm looking for. Lappy is a Vostro V13. Any ideas or next step. I have tried using the search for driver in Device Manager but no luck.

If this doesn't go away after installing the chipset drivers then it could be many things including but not limited to Bluetooth, Modem, etc. What is the PCI DEV number in the device manager for the device?
The DevCon utility is a command-line utility that acts as an alternative to Device Manager. Using DevCon, you can enable, disable, restart, update, remove, and query individual devices or groups of devices. DevCon also provides information that is relevant to the driver developer and is not available in Device Manager.
DevCon is not redistributable. It is provided for use as a debugging and development tool. You can freely modify DevCon for private use. The sample demonstrates how to use the SetupAPI and CfgMgr32 functions together effectively to enumerate devices and perform device operations. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Download the DevCon package now. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/f/11f7dd10-272d-4cd2-896f-9ce67f3e0240/devcon.exe) Release Date: Jan-29-2003

1. I DL'ed the “Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 7.1.0″ from MS, it is an ISO image several hundreds meg
I extracted the install file "WDK\setuptools_x64fre.msi" to a temporary dir
In that temporary dir you will find "WinDDK\7600.16385.win7_wdk.100208-1538\tools\devcon\amd64\devcon.exe".
This devcon works fine (as far as I've tested) for me under W7x64 Pro.
Note: devcon MUST be run from an administrator cmd window.
