USB Problem
I have a Inspiron M600 Dell Laptop and I get the following message continously showing up on my computer.
"USB Device Not Recognized" One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
I have called Dell support 4 times now, have reformatted my computer, installed Bios Updates; downloaded Chipset; Notebook software downloads, disabled unknown device (which shows up in Device Manager under USB) and the problem is still persisting. There is nothing plugged into the USB Port or Ports and when I do it recognizes the item plugged in. Anyone else have this problem and if so, how was it resolved.
Please note there is nothing plugged into the USB ports, they have been tested and they read whatever I have plugged in there.
Since posting this previously, I contacted Dell and they have helped me to no longer see the above message flash but what is happening now is when I have the sound on I get a ding when I'm not doing anything to cause it. It seems like the sound has now taken over from the flash message. I need help and thank you to those who can help me with my problem.

I have the same problem on my 600m. In November 2005 a technician help fix it but in a few days the error messege came back.. I still need to get ahold of a tech again to help fix it. I just haven't had time to do it........since at times you can get stuck for a couple hours on the phone with them. I would love to fix the problem. Does anyone have any tips to give us? Could the USB's be a defected.H.McGregor

I am having the same problem with my Inspiron 600m.If you check the device manager you will discover that whenever you hear the beeps or see the pop up the Bluetooth Radios icon disappears. It appears as though the BIOS does not always recognisethe bluetooth. I am of the opinion that there is a bad connection between the bluetooth module and the motherboard.I have spoken to Dell support but they are unable to resolve my problem.I hate to say this but it appears as though I know more about computer systems than Dell Support team- same w/my 600m after reinstalling operating syst."bluetooth device is not detected" ran test in blue screen all OK.also when click on bluetooth icon in lwr bar say to hit Fn/F2 to turn on ,when I do this it activates the other internal wireless.Soft ware 1.4.1.4? any help for me D?

You can disable the sound by using control panel, Sounds & Audio Devices. Choose the SOUNDS tab at the top, and scroll down the list until you see 'Device Connect'. Remove the sound for all three device events: Connect, Disconnect, and Failed to Connect.
