Which drivers do I need?
I'm at the Dell Drivers & Downloads for Inspiron 640m / E1405 (my laptop), and I get a listing of a number of urgent, recommended, optional drivers. Some of these are two years old. Who knows, I may have downloaded and installed them - how do I know which have already been applied?

Thanks - it's good to know that there are people out there with answers who don't want to take your credit card number first. :emotion-2:
As to this.... I did check the device manager, and didn't see any items with a yellow exclamation mark. So I take it that I can ignore what dell has as their driver updates. It would be nice to have a way to check the system and compare if the update is older, equal to, or newer that the one on the system. The diagnostics tools on the web site could not interact with my Dell Inspiron, possibly because the system is too old (2006?).
I will mention that I downloaded the latest dell support center version using the version that was on the dell web site driver update check area, and I then got prompted (a day later) to install two new drivers. So maybe that's the key - to get the latest dell support center software, then do what it tells me.
Thanks for the assist!

Welcome to the forums :emotion-21:
Check in Control Panel/Device Manager, to see if there are any components/devices with yellow exclamation marks?
If there aren't, you don't need to download/install drivers.
If there are, identify which specific components/devices need drivers, and just download/install those :emotion-5:
BTW: It's not unusual to see two year old (or even older) drivers on the downloads pages.
That's most often because either no newer drivers are available at all, or no newer drivers have been made available to Dell by the respective component manufacturers.
